Heading South – Hubbard Glacier

Hubbard Glacier, AK
For the first time in all of our cruises, we actually made it to the Main Dining Room for breakfast. It was delicious! We walked around a little then headed back to our rooms. LJ went to the gym and then we got ready to arrive at Hubbard Glacier. Guess what just appeared? The sun and blue skies! Yeah! Claire will be so excited. It will be cold though so we bundle up. As we go into Disenchantment Bay the wind is very chilly and I’m glad I have my layers on but one we get into the Bay and in front of the Glacier with the ship stopped, we actually warm up and can even take off our jackets. It is amazing. The glacier is six miles wide and 70+ miles long and was very active today with several spectacular calves.

Afterwards I came back to the cabin and worked on the blog from the comfort of the balcony – it doesn’t get any better than this! Once I get a few minutes of upload time I’ll get it posted but I type everything in Word then paste it into the blog so I’m only online a few minutes at a time. Well, just had to take a break, I had my first whale siting from the balcony! LJ is taking a nap after his full afternoon of shooting the glacier. I asked if he wanted me to wake him if I saw one, he said only if it was right beside the ship – too bad for him! More later!
We get ready for dinner and tonight we are going to one of the new specialty restaurants on board, Giovanni’s Table, which is an Italian Restaurant featuring Family Style meals to share if you wish. We ended up trying six different appetizers, plus the pasta and main course dishes and dessert – we were stuffed!
