Captain Jim took us fishing today for Silvers and Pinks. He was born and raised in Ketchikan and is married with three kids, ages 8, 4 and 1. It was an amazing day on the water, our calmest day and also the warmest while fishing which was a nice way to end our three days of fishing. It started out a little slow but soon Larry had a bite. It was a rock fish though, not a salmon but he was on the board with a fish for the day. When we threw the rock fish back, an eagle came and snatched it up really quick and we were able to get photos and video! It was amazing! Now I was trying to catch those instead of the salmon, which Jim said was a first for him.

We changed spots and soon we started catching the pinks. Today was no live bait, downriggers and depths at the most were 70 feet, but mainly 20-35. We had a hoochie (probably spelling that one wrong!) and a hook, nothing more. LJ caught a rock fish and we got to see another eagle! Our final tally for today: 24 fish – 22 salmon and 2 rock fish, of the 22 Salmon – 21 were pinks, one was a silver which L.J. caught and won the day!
Today’s charter was only a half-day instead of a full one so we came back onboard, had lunch and then the four of us went out to see Creek Street and Ketchikan. We took the bus to Creek Street and did some shopping, people watching and fish viewing. There was also a seal swimming with some kayakers in the river there.
We took the bus back to the pier and Larry and Claire headed onboard while LJ and I stayed out. LJ took more photos (I know, you never would have guessed!) and I shopped a bit and people watched. It was such a beautiful day! Onboard was 5:30 for a 6:00 departure. We had dinner at 7:00 then the show was at 9:00. We had planned to go to The Quest tonight but we were just too exhausted and had to call it a day! Tomorrow is our final day at sea – then home Friday/Saturday.
