Goodbye bears, thanks for the memories

After a quick photo with our favorite bear guide, Brian and fishing guide, Mark, we collected our fish and we were scheduled to leave around 9:30 am. We packed into the ATV trailer and headed out to the beach a bit early, hoping for one last bear moment, and we were not disappointed. The solo twins popped out on the beach and romped around for 20 minutes or so, coming within 15 feet or so of us at one point before heading past us down the beach, right as our plane arrived to carry us back across the Cook Inlet.

We left content in the knowledge that we had many photos and memories of an adventure together that only a tiny number of people in the world ever get the joy of experiencing!

Tim came to pick us up and brought with him some spectacular weather!  We really enjoyed the flight home and sharing with him about our time at Silver Salmon.

Once we landed and said our goodbyes, we loaded up the car and decided to go find out where we would be meeting our fishing guide tomorrow and also find some lunch.   First we made a stop at the fish processing plant to leave our fish from the lodge, they already had our fish from the first of the week and we’d add tomorrow’s catch and hope to have a nice bounty to take home to share!  We would be fishing out of Kasilof tomorrow so that was our next destination.

We found Rocky’s Cafe there and it had a great little shop, cafe and lots of character everywhere you looked!  LJ went for a burger and I went with fish and rings (instead of chips) and while we skipped dessert, we had to share a photo of how big the cinnamon rolls were – they were huge!

After lunch we found our launch spot for tomorrow and then made our way to the post office to ship home the fishing poles.  We wouldn’t need them tomorrow and since we were fishing and then packing out to head to Anchorage, this would be the best time to do it.  Photos are dedicated to Brenda, our resident Postmaster in the family and soon to be sister-in-law (like as soon as we return home!)

We would be staying in the same cabin we used earlier in the week on Mindy and Reuben’s property so we decided to unload and then head out on some more adventures. A few pics of the cabin since we didn’t get a chance to share them earlier:

Since it was such a beautiful day, we decided to go back to the Visitors Center and have another walk by the Soldotna river.  The sky was just amazing!

It had been a full day, but for those that know us best… can you guess our final stop in Soldotna?  The Orca Theaters – We went to see “A Man From Uncle” to top off our Alaskan vacation.  What could be more perfect?  Please don’t answer that…
